Kitchen Extension Electrical Work in York – First Fix and Second Fix

Electrical Work for a Large Kitchen Extension in York

I was recently asked to carry out the electrical work for a large kitchen extension at the rear of a property in York. The project involved completing the first fix and second fix electrics, working alongside the other trades to ensure everything was installed safely and in the right place.

Making the Existing Wiring Safe

Before work could get underway, the existing external structures were demolished and removed. This meant making safe the existing electrical cables to ensure the area was safe for the next stages of the building work.

First Fix Electrical Installation

Once the extension was ready, I carried out the first fix electrical work. Using the architectural plans and liaising closely with the customers, I made sure the cables for the lighting, ceiling spotlights and sockets were positioned correctly to suit the new kitchen layout.

Getting the first fix right is an important part of any kitchen extension, as it helps ensure that lighting, sockets and appliance connections are in the right locations before the walls and ceilings are plastered.

Second Fix and Electrical Testing

After the plastering had been completed, I returned to carry out the second fix electrics. This involved cutting out the ceiling openings for the spotlights, fitting the socket fronts and connecting the sockets for the kitchen appliances.

Once the installation work was complete, I carried out the appropriate electrical testing to check the completed work.
